AgraQuest, Inc. Founding Scientist Featured Speaker at Green Chemistry Symposium
DAVIS, Calif. (Nov. 6, 2007) – Dr. Denise Manker of AgraQuest Inc., a leading provider of effective and safe pest management and plant health products, was a featured speaker at the Green Chemistry Symposium held recently by the California Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Toxic Substance Control.
Manker's presentation titled "Natural Products as Green Pesticides" highlighted the strides that AgraQuest has made in reducing the synthetic chemicals used for pest control in foods eaten by people worldwide.
Presenting alongside speakers from Dow Chemical, Proctor & Gamble, Rohm and Haas, and the American Chemical Society, Manker's discussion illustrated how green chemicals both replace and complement traditional chemistries, and the positive impact that they have on conventional and organic growers, as well as everyday consumers.
"While biopesticides have an obvious fit in organic agricultural production, we can have the biggest impact in lowering chemical inputs – and achieving green chemistry goals – by integrating biopesticides into conventional crop pest management," Manker told the group assembled in person and watching via live webcast.
Manker, who has been with AgraQuest since it was founded in 1995, has spent her career focusing on developing naturally inspired products effective in controlling pests and reducing the chemical load in the conventional and organic agriculture segments.
